Thor Olsson tweeted what the syllabus of the course would cover, and he acknowledged that, on a separate basis, these games “tend to be not historical”, but still provide a good starting point for discussing the rise of colonialism, racism and monopoly capitalism.
Torre Olsson also wrote a special article for slate magazine on how “wild escort 2” describes and allows players to interact with racists in the past in the United States. Torre Olsson said the class does not require students to buy a PC or a game machine to play this, because Torre Olsson feels that most students who choose this course have played the game before. In the subsequent tweet, he explained that he hoped that the non orthodox treatment of history would help attract non history majors. Torre Olsson also hopes his course will inspire other professors to think about game oriented courses that attract young students more than traditional syllabus.
